Avoiding Healing? When Self-Care Becomes a Distraction

Podcast Episode #16 Avoiding Healing? When Self-Care Becomes a Distraction

[00:00:00] Hello, and welcome back to yet another inspirational podcast episode, brought to you by yours truly, Carina from Healergy. I'm your truth speaker, truth seeker, truth keeper, and I am so glad that you're here with me today Hey, it's Carina, and welcome back to Soul Medicine. This one's for the woman who's ticked every self-care box there is, the nails, the lashes, the hair, and still feels like something's missing.

The one who looks great on the outside, but can't shake the ache [00:01:00] inside, like a house with fresh paint, but a cracked foundation. And in classic Carina-style fashion, yes, I've pulled out the tarot cards again, because of course I have. We're channeling straight through the cards this week to find out what spirit really wants to say about why your treat yourself moments keep turning into emotional hangovers.

So grab your tea, your headphones, or your bravery because we're going to find out what your direct messages from spirit are. Stay with me. We're walking through the fire on this one. You know what hit me at the nail salon when I was getting a pedicure recently? The collective is chasing belonging through aesthetics.[00:02:00]

We build outer celebrations, the new hair, the brunch, the spa day, hoping to feel the inner homecoming we've lost. The Four of Wands reversed whispers, "You can decorate the house, but it's still empty if no one's inside." And I felt that because there I was finally sitting still for 40 minutes after two weeks of school holidays, launches, cooking, cleaning, being mum, wife, business owner, and I realized I rarely give myself permission to stop Spirit showed me how easily self-care becomes a mask when it tries to replace connection.

We crave sanctuary, not ceremony. We [00:03:00] don't need another celebration. We need to feel at home in our own bodies again. So I said to myself, and maybe you need to hear this too, "This isn't performance. This is permission." And Spirit kept nudging. "Your body is the temple. Are you listening to its sermons?" Every ache, every sigh, every migraine, sacred teachings disguised as symptoms.

The Horophant says, "Devotion over display." Not perfection, practice. Not performance, presence. And so Spirit's message: treat your body like the altar, not the advertisement Re-ritualize [00:04:00] care. Water, real meals, movement, stillness, sleep. Rhythm over spectacle. Choose devotion, not dopamine. Listen to the whisper before it becomes a scream.

When your shoulders rise, that's the chapel bell. Go to the temple, your body, now Your body isn't a project to perfect it's a sanctuary to serve with reverence when your rituals shift from social maintenance to sacred maintenance healing begins The Knight of Swords reversed crashes through like a warning siren.

You're sprinting towards peace while dragging chaos behind you. We keep mistaking motion for progress, [00:05:00] but movement without awareness is just running from the truth. And every time you rushed, rush past your pain, you sign a new lease with it. You have to learn to sit in the discomfort, however raw, however long it takes, because the longer you run, the louder it gets.

The ache doesn't disappear. It waits. It festers. It becomes the burnout you swear you didn't see coming. And so spirit's message, you can't outrun what's inside you. You can only meet it or let it devour your light. And that's the choice, not between good and bad, but between avoidance and awakening, between numbing the [00:06:00] ache or finally naming it, between performing peace and living it.

So when I ask, "When will you choose it?" I mean, when will you choose yourself? When will you choose to stay, to stop sprinting, and actually stand in the fire long enough to let it forge you?

Change isn't a reward, it's a reclamation. You either choose to meet the truth on your own terms, or you wait until burnout forces you to, because one way or another, the body will make you stop

Peace doesn't arrive through speed. It begins the moment you stop confusing distraction with healing and finally decide to face yourself. Only the truth can set [00:07:00] you free, because truth is the flame that burns the illusion clean The Nine of Swords is the midnight hour. The place no affirmation reaches.

The room is quiet, but your mind isn't. It's the voice that whispers, "What if I'm the problem?" It's the shame that crawls back into bed with you even when you've done all the work. Spirit showed me this clearly. You can't mantra your way out of the dark. You meet the monster by turning on the light and realizing it was never a monster.

It was a younger version of you begging to be held This is the medicine that no one markets. The part where you stop decorating your pain [00:08:00] and finally look it in the eye Your sleepless nights are not weaknesses. They're sermons. Every 3:00 a.m. panic is a knock from your soul saying, "Stop sedating me with busyness.

Sit with me until the truth surfaces." I've sat there too, mascara streaked, heartbeat in my throat, whispering to the dark, "I can't do this anymore." And Spirit said back, "Good. Then don't. Let the old self die here. Let the mask drown so the woman underneath can finally breathe The Nine of Swords is the initiation, the portal between who you pretend to be and who you're meant to become.

It's brutal [00:09:00] compassion. It strips you bare so nothing false can follow. So tonight, when the thoughts come clawing, don't reach for distraction. Reach for presence. Turn on the light. Meet yourself, because that's where the real healing begins. Not in escape, but in encounter. And so spirit's message, "Your pain isn't punishment.

It's proof you're still alive enough to transform."

Healing starts in the dark room, not the day spa

The Five of Wands reversed isn't about defeat. It's about the quiet after the scramble. It's that split second [00:10:00] when everyone in the arena realizes they've been swinging at shadows, arguing for airtime in a room full of echoes. Spirit showed me we've all been fighting to be seen, even inside ourselves.

One part of us wants peace, another wants proof, another wants control, and the noise of it all drowns out the whisper that says, "You can stop performing now." This card is the integration of inner voices, the creative chaos finally agreeing to work together. It's you learning that not every spark is a battle, not every opinion is a threat.

It's the moment you stop competing with the woman you used to be and start collaborating with her. And Spirit's message came through [00:11:00] clear: You don't have to earn your seat at your own table. You just have to sit down

Reconnection feels like that. The internal debate softening into dialogue. The need to prove dissolving into purpose. No one wins, no one loses, because the war was never real. It was rehearsal for peace. And maybe that's the true essence of the Five of Wands reversed. Learning how to dance with your fire instead of letting it burn you.

To stop mi-mistaking intensity for intimacy. To realize that the loudest voice in the room isn't always the truest one. Sometimes it's just the scared one trying to be heard [00:12:00] So breathe. Step out of the ring. Let the dust settle. You don't need to keep shouting to be seen. I see you Your soul already knows your name And Spirit's final whisper, "The moment you stop fighting yourself, you make space for grace."

And so I invite you to try this with me this embodiment practice right now Okay, I just want you to close down your eyes and I want you to breathe. Not the polite kind, but the kind that shakes loose the dust in your lungs. And I want you to inhale through your nose until your ribs remember they were built to [00:13:00] expand And exhale through your mouth until the armor slides off your shoulders And Spirit says, your breath is the bridge between who you were and who you're becoming Now place one hand on your heart, one on your belly, the meeting point of truth and instinct.

Feel that pulse That's life saying, "I'm still here even after everything." And let the m-, the air move like fire through you. Each inhale, draw in your power. And each exhale release every should that ever kept you small Then whisper, not softly, but like a vow. [00:14:00] Okay, you're setting the intention. I choose presence over performance.

Again, louder until your cells hear you. I choose presence over performance Stay there until you feel the shift, the electricity of remembering that your body isn't a cage. It's the altar where transformation happens. This is where healing stops being an idea and starts being breath, pulse, motion.

Spirit's closing whisper, "You are not the wound. You're the wildfire that purifies it." The truth is simple, but it isn't soft. Self-care soothes. Soul work transforms. You [00:15:00] can keep polishing the surface, or you can rebuild from the foundation up. The polish will fade. It always does. But the woman who meets herself in the mirror after the breakdown, she doesn't.

She becomes something elemental, part ember, part earth, rebuilt

from the ashes of her own awakening. And here's your reflection for the week: Where are you mistaking maintenance for healing? And what would change if you treated your healing as holy ground instead of an afterthought? Because healing isn't a trend, it's a reclamation. It's choosing to stay awake in a world that profits from your numbness.

It's saying, "I'm done performing peace. I'm here to live it." And if something in this episode stirred that knowing [00:16:00] inside you, that pull that whispers, "I'm ready to go deeper," that's where my work begins. This is what I hold through Reiki, tarot, and soul-deep transformation coaching. The space between breakdown and breakthrough, the work where you stop running from your truth and start rebuilding from it.

You don't have to do it alone. Bring your ache, your questions, your half-healed parts, all of you, and I'll meet you there with medicine, not masks. You'll find the ways to connect with me in the show notes or at carinabull.com.au. Start whenever your soul says yes, one session, one breath, one brave step at a time.

When we start treating soul work as self-care, we don't just heal ourselves, we shift the field around us. [00:17:00] Until next time, stay true, stay tender, and remember, just because it was doesn't mean it will be. With love, Carina.
